Strong Acting Respiratory Support

When Europeans first came to North America, the native people of Eastern North America smoked and burned the leaf, so it became known as Indian Tobacco. (Lobelia is not even remotely related to tobacco, which is Nicotiana tabacum.) It’s the other names that Lobelia has had that make you sit up and take notice. There’s a reason Lobelia is known as Puke Weed, Gagroot, Vomit Wort, Emetic Herb, and Asthma Weed. This little plant packs a big whollup!

While there are over 300 varieties of Lobelia, it is Lobelia inflata that is used medicinally. Lobelia inflata is a small flowering plant that is native to the entire eastern North America that is the Indian Tobacco that native peoples used for respiratory and muscle issues, to clear the bowels, and as a ceremonial plant.

Only the above ground parts are used. This is a very strong herb that has to be used with caution.

One of Lobelia’s main uses is to help open the breathing passages and thin phlegm so it is easier to cough up. Small amounts of Lobelia have a sedative action that helps with relaxation and helps relax the respiratory system, nerves, and muscles. Larger amounts cause sweating, nausea, increased heart rate, and can cause serious vomiting. It was used in the 1800’s by the American Eclectic physicians to induce vomiting to quickly clear toxins from the body. (That’s how it got to be called Puke Weed.)

Lobelia has a chemical, lobeline, that has actions that are similar to nicotine. It has been used to help those that want to stop smoking tobacco, but only because it is a deterrent to tobacco use by causing nausea when tobacco is used. Lobelia may help reduce chemical dependencies.

It’s not just the herb that makes Lobelia so effective. Lobelia Single Herb by Cedar Bear® is made with Cedar Bear’s special proprietary process called the TincTract®. It’s more than a tincture, and more than an extract, and works better than either! Cedar Bear’s alcohol-free TincTract process makes the herbs both bio-available and bio-utilizable, so every drop goes right to work supporting your health and well-being. Best of all, the TincTract process not only makes herbs work better, but they taste better, too!

Like all Cedar Bear herbs, Lobelia is totally alcohol-free. It has only three things in it, the herb, glycerin, and water. Nothing else!

When you need strong herbal support, with care, you can give Cedar Bear’s alcohol-free TincTract of Lobelia Herb a try.

About Us

Melanie’s Health & Nutrition really began with Auminay Naturals which was formerly SkinTastic Creations. This product line took root over twenty years ago as Melanie faced cancer. After becoming aware of alternative therapies she worked to change to a healthier lifestyle and learn about herbs. She developed what is now the Auminay Naturals product line by eventually learning to infuse these herbs into products that used natural ingredients to provide skin care products for a healthier lifestyle. In 2017, as a newly certified Master Herbalist, Melanie opened Melanie’s Health & Nutrition to provide a resource for the Tooele community. The Auminay products are now made in the back section of the store. Melanie and her staff love to serve the community and provide opportunities for learning, as well as products that empower people to be healthier.
